“I’ve designed these photography workshops to help photographers unlock their full creative potential. I believe that understanding how to use your camera is paramount. Once you understand the technical’s everything flows on from that. So we first go through the slow, patient and deliberative process of learning all the rules. Then after we learn the rules we start to learn how to break them.
Our workshops are only the beginning of your journey into photography and I think that its important that we acknowledge that. So when you leave our workshops we provide for you a couple of extra things to help you on your journey. You get an informational booklet with a summary of everything you learned on the day. And you get access to our private Facebook Group where you can ask me questions, you can post and share photographs and ask myself or the community for critique.”
Mark “Big Mark” Fa’amaoni
"My experience with Big Mark was one of great learning and good company. I felt listened to and respected which helped me feel comfortable in the learning environment. With Big Mark's calm and simplified teaching approach I really felt I gained a much deeper knowledge of how to use my camera in the way I have always wanted too but wasn't able to do on my own."Alana JQualified Make Up & Hair Artist
Big Mark has a knack for explaining complex concepts plainly. I've been taking photos for years blundering my way through the technical side. But in an afternoon he made clear what took me years to misunderstand.Spiro H
I have always generally come to Mark for any business, advice or guidance when it comes to photography and in all aspects have never been let done once,Dennis MOwner Raid Studios
I have learnt a lot observing and conversing with Mark and overall would HIGHLY suggest him not only as a photographer but as a mentor.

Our Workshops-Starting from December 2019
The Summer Series: The Beginners Guide to Photography
Summer is here! And to celebrate Big Mark is launching the Summer Series of Photography Workshops. Our Beginners Guide to Photography workshops will run every Sunday from December the 8th 2019 until January 26th 2020.
Our Beginners Guide to Photography teaches you how to use the manual mode on your camera. We teach you about shutter-speed, aperture and ISO, what each of them do, how they relate to each other and we teach you a simple trick to help you get the “correct” exposure in almost any situation. We also teach you the best way to set up your focus, and the fundamentals of white balance.
This is a foundation workshop that teaches what we believe are the fundamentals that every photographer should know. If you’ve just gotten a digital camera for Christmas or if you’ve had a camera for a long time but are stuck in automatic settings, this workshop is for you.
You can bring any camera with manual camera controls over aperture, shutter speed and ISO but would reccomend a digital DSLR or mirrorless camera. Dress for the weather (Wellington weather can change dramatically, so bring layers of clothing just in case). Bring charged batteries and formatted memory cards and comfortable shoes.
We meet at the Seatoun Shops, if coming by bus catch the number 2 from Karori.
This is an outdoors workshop. In the case of bad weather the workshop will be cancelled and we will re-book you on the next workshop that works for you best. We will make a weather call Saturday evening and all participants will be sent a text message at 8PM to confirm if the workshop will go ahead or not.
New workshops will be available later in 2020.
